Do You Trust the Government?

Do you? Seriously?

I lost my trust in the government back in high school I think. Vietnam ring any bells?

I often wonder about the disconnect in belief systems that seems to have happened in the minds of anti-government radicals since the 60s and 70’s. Everything about big government was despised then, but is seemingly embraced now.

Government overreach was destructive then and it still is. And I don’t get why this isn’t understood better.

In a free society, which the US has always purported to be, it’s not the job of citizens to trust the government, but to oversee it. We elect those who would govern and our votes should be what keeps them honest, because our votes are what keep them in the office. Right?

That’s not really the case any longer. What keeps most politicians in office is money and power. Those are addicting things, not easily set aside. And if your position is derived from them, you are beholden to the people or entities who open their wallets to fund your campaign. That’s almost certainly not you and me.
