Can’t Relate?

Oliver Anthony. Suddenly catapulted into the stratosphere of fame after the song below starting attracting attention.

I’m hoping that Anthony is able to hang on to his authenticity which I’m sure isn’t easy to do in his situation.

He’s not thrilled that the conservative elite have adopted his biggest song as some kind of anti-Joe Biden anthem. You can’t blame him for that.

Quoting another video Anthony released this week –

“It’s hard to get a message out about your political ideology or your belief about the world in three minutes and some change,” he said,”but I do hate to see that song being weaponized. I see the right trying to characterize me as one of their own, and I see the left trying to discredit me, I guess in retaliation. That shit’s gotta stop,” he continued.”

We need to remember that these conservatives who are trying to appropriate this song, are both rich and mostly reside north of Richmond, but they somehow seem to miss the point of the song entirely.

Republicans who’ve been in Congress their entire adult lives, aren’t any different, and no better than Democrats who’ve done the same. Spending 20, 30, 40 years in Washington DC is about as far from real life as a person can get.

But, a lot of the heavy flak is coming from the more liberal-leaning part of the country. They hold a person like Oliver Anthony in disdain. They have him pegged as possessing characteristics that they can’t usually relate to.

So, to the ordinary liberal, I say this: If you think the liberal elite in DC cares about you, you’re only fooling yourself.

They don’t care about you, they don’t care about your family, or your parents, or your kids. They don’t care if you have a decent job, if you can afford a house, or even groceries. They don’t care about anything other than your vote that will keep them in their position of accumulating power and money.

You ordinary, everyday liberals think that Joe Biden has a single shit to give about you? Talk to the people in Lahaina about how much he cares.

You might want to give that song another listen, with that in mind. It’s actually about you far more than you may have first imagined.
